Rock & Pop, I believe the genre is called "progressive rock"?

I only know of Porcupine Tree though. What are some other good progressive rock bands? What makes a band "progressive"?

BQ: Favorite Porcupine Tree song?

The Sleeping is a more modern progressive rock band. Their best album is What it Takes.

    Some older progressive bands are:

Pink Floyd (but I think they are also a few other genres as well)

    Genesis

    Yes

    FM

    Camel

    Emerson, Lake & Palmer

    King Crimson

    Rush

It usually has ever changing melodies but often times comes back to the original melody it started with. The tempo and rhythm change often. Volume increases/decreases more often. Basically, it's something that is changing but usually goes to back to how it originally started whether it is the melody or the time or the key...something about it generally goes back to how it was at the beginning. I forgot to add that the key usually changes as well. Usually it has fast-paced drums and keyboard/synthesizers. Also, the time signatures are often not so common ones such as 7/4.

A great example of progressive rock is Genesis's album "Selling England By The Pound" It's, in my opinion, one of the best albums ever made. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2s7giSB4TI (this is a great example of progressive rock)

BQ: I don't know them though I've heard they are like Pink Floyd. I've heard of them just haven't heard them.

Definitley Pink floyd, yes and Genesis, but I'd consider giving modern bands such as Coheed and Cambria, Radiohead and Muse a go as well.
