Everyones look at World ending in 2012?
What is your view on the apparent "World Ending in 2012'?
I've been kinda freaking out lately about it, and i was wondering what other poeple thought.
Why people think that?
-Mayan calender ends in 2012
-Many religions beleive that world will end in 2012
-NASA apperently has hidden that a planet is supposed to block the sun for three days on December 1st 2012, causing many natural disasters to end the world.
What do you think??
Have you heard any more about it??

Nonsense. All of it.
Mayan calender ends in 2012: well it had to end somewhere
-Many religions believe that world will end in 2012: Name 1, There are exactly none.
-NASA apparently has hidden that a planet is supposed to block the sun for three days on December 1st 2012, causing many natural disasters to end the world.: This is the biggest load of crap yet.
No planet in the solar system can block the sun. The only 2 between us and the sun are Mercury (way too small) and venus. Which is the planet your referring to. Its too small as well and it wont block the sun at all.
Get yourself a reality check.

It's mainly because of the Mayan calendar. It's said to be the most accurate calendar out there (at least one of) and it ends on December 21, 2012 (the winter solstice). Apparently winter solstices were very important to Mayans, so that date was also important to them as well. (My thinking is, that 2012 probably seemed a LONG ways off to the Mayans so isn't it possible they thought that might be a good place to end? And especially on a winter solstice?)
But scientists pretty much believe that in 2012 the moon the sun and the earth will line up and the poles will reverse.
I think pretty much everything after that is just people feeding their superstitions. For centuries people have been shouting the end of the world, so now here's a story that MIGHT back them up, MIGHT.
I myself am a Christian, so I'm thinking we may have at least seven more years until anything life threatening happens.
I wouldn't worry about it though. I think in 1988, everyone was convinced Jesus was going to come back. Well, here we are today.
So just go ahead and enjoy life =]
Source(s): I was wondering about it too earlier, so I looked it up. There are several questions like this already posted, and one of them has a link to some helpful websites (but I can't remember them, sorry) - Anonymous1 decade ago
Funny you should ask, I just did a speech on this very subject in my Humanities class just a month ago! Although I was attempting to persuade everyone that it would happen, I don't think it will. In my mind it is kind of like a wonderful fairytale like Harry Potter. I was so excited for my 11th birthday because deep down I was kind of expecting a letter from Hogwarts. 2012 is the same. Honestly, I think world ending disasters sounds a bit exciting- but I don't think it will happen. I found many sites while researching for my speech but very few had more actual Scientific facts supporting an end. If you want anymore facts vouching for either side feel free to contact me! I'm certain I still have my bibliography somewhere.

Hey:-) 7 reasons the world will end in 2012: 1. Mayan Calendar The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things: Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and Sacrificing Virgins. Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well. 2. Sun Storms Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012 3. The Atom Smasher Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball. 4. The Bible says... If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn't bad enough, religious folks are getting in on the act as well. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings. 5. Super Volcano Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang. 6. The Physicists This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs. 7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG! We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that shields us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.......

I think it's crap. I believe that it is feasible that there could be an end to human life on this planet eventually. But the planet will remain. Other life forms will remain, evolve, etc. So I don't believe there will ever be an end to the world--just perhaps the world we know (as humans). Secondly, I think it is ridiculous that someone tries to pick a specific date for the end of the world. Logic would dictate that if human life ends on this planet, it will probably be due to nuclear holocaust, pollution, disease, etc. Those things take TIME to kill you. It would happen gradually over months or even years--pretty hard to pick the date it comes to fruition. Thirdly, I am old enough to remember Y2K. I remember the widespread panic, people buying survival guides, generators, etc. And for what? Absolutely nothing. Fourthly, various individuals and texts have declared the end of the world is imminent countless times. Why choose this one theory to get all hot and bothered about? There. Feel better?

I believe that the world would not end by natural disasters. But the discoveries of microscopic black holes on earth would create something like that, but those things last for only a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a second , therefore is not enough to make even a slight change on the world. As to natural disasters, we are the ones that causes this. Natural calamities increased because of global warming. A single large catastrophic event is insufficient to end the world. Our ancestors survived the ice age, what more can we? Man causes the destruction of earth and might even lead to the end of the world that people predict would happen, but for now, we can change it. We started this destruction, only us can change this.

It freaks me out too! I saw this movie preview for the movie "2012". I refuse to see that movie! It will cause me to have like a nervous breakdown I'll only be like 19 in 2012 that would suck. What i say to make myself feel better is that the Mayans just got tired of writing down the calender...what do they know anyway? They all disappeared so how smart can they be.

Its funny you have asked this question,, I have been obesseing about this for sometimes and have been looking into it.. There are so many scientist and nasa people who are saying this is not going to happen. I love it that they are saying this.. Then there are people who sound interesting thatsay it is going to happen.. I have not heard religions claim this though.... I am hoping and praying it does not happen I do not want to dye.. The only problem with this is everyone has a different oppionion on what is going to happen which gives me HOPE that it is not going to ahppen.. SOme say there is going to be an commet hit the earth,,, others say the magnetic force is going to switch so the polar are going to switch.. I have even heard of an invasion theory,, no wha tyou are saying..

There have been a few shows on TV about this. Like on History channel... I think its a possibility. I have a christian background, and believe that God can come back at any time, and that the world must pretty much go to hell before he comes back and with these current leaders, and nuclear weapons it could all happen soon. But in the end you must wait for the answer, no matter how much speculation you put at it.

Since I read your question I have been doing some research on the end of the world and I have to tell ya it scares the crap out of me. My aunt is pshici and I asked her what she thikns of it and she said that she tries not to think about those things because it causes her to get headacks. However she said that there are alot of different thoeries on how the world will end but there isnt any that she has heard that scare her YET! I dunno what she meant by that but I do believe that if we dont start taking better care of our planet and start being a little more concerned of our actions while we are here on earth one day the world AS WE KNOW IT will end.
