Hey Rod.
You have to check that the processor is up to spec. and you have enough RAM.
On A Personal Note, I Prefer XP to Vista...
I Tried Putting XP over vista, and there was a problem with the drivers, but i just downloaded them off the DELL website...
Good Luck,
James:)

you would be able to establish Xp and delete vista. purely be careful or a minimum of examine your laptops drivers first. frustrating drivers to get are NIC/wifi/multiport. in case you have an XP OEM license from yet another pc, its no longer meant to be waiting to be transferred to a various pc. in basic terms retail can try this. Wont harm to objective nevertheless. Please determine to create restoration discs out of your vista nevertheless. maximum laptops do no longer contain restoration discs and purely supply a restoration partition and the capacity to make restoration discs.

It depends what kind of installation disks they are - they might be a full version of Windows or an "image" windows installation (one that's specially set up for your original laptop)
However, it's irrelevant as you only have one license code - so will only work on one computer. As soon as you come to type in the product key, Microsoft will see that there's another computer with this version of windows, and the validation process will fail

Only if your XP machine is Vista compatible and only if you're not going to have that copy of Vista on the new one too. One copy per computer. If you do find a way around that, it's ILLEGAL!

Yes if its compatible
You can download this upgrade advisor from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get...
It will tell you if your pc has any issues running vista
Also you can just do an upgrade instead of a fresh install so you can keep all your current files intact.

i wouldnt reccomend it at all, it could seriously corrupt your whole pc and even if it is a success,, it would slow it down massively as vista needs more power to be run because of its more features and graphics
good luck!

No because the drivers will be for that particular laptop and wont work on another one
