Is the railway safe in Italy? Do you have to worry about strikes?

My parents are going this soon. They have been to Italy a couple a times. But, usually on a tour. This time, going by themselves. My Dad's friend said it was not safe to ride.

Update:

My parents are going soon. My dad's friend who has a home in Italy told him the rail was not safe.

I've lived here for ten years. The railroad is safe and the best way to get around in Italy. I take the train rather than driving most of the time. There are strikes sometimes, but they're announced in advance and generally run for 24 hours. I personally frequently use te night trains and have never had or seen any problems. If you pay attention, you can plan around them. When there is a strike, there cannot be another in the next 14 days. There are also a few trains that are guaranteed in the event of a strike. It's pretty civilized. There was a strike of the cleaning people yesterday, but it was only causing delays on some lines - not a shutdown. The trains I was on were on time. There really haven't been all that many strikes recently.

You do not have a problem with the train. Safe, secure and right now you can use a High velocity train, absolutely comfortable.

If you need anythings , you can check by web site www.loristravel.com I am form Italy and i can guarantee the best way to travel is by train.

So say to your parents..no worries,

It's safe during the day, when trains are packed with tourists. It's not advisable to travel late in the evening. There are strikes sometimes, mainly at weekends.

Termini zone is not as dangerous as other part of the city. You might not find it very nice at night but do not worry about anything. Especially all around Vittorio Emanuele square there are a lot of restaurants opened till 1 am so you will find a lot of people hanging around that area even at night!
