What are some advantages to watching college basketball?
I watch it once in awhile, not nearly as much as I used to. But I had a conversation with a contact of mine that says college basketball>NBA.
He couldn't tell me why lol, but he believes that it's better than what everyone usually watches.
Why is college basketball better?
Which college team do you follow?
Do you think there should be a separate section for College Basketball?
* I'm not saying there should be and personally I wouldn't like this section being separated, but I wanna know your opinions. (:
So.... if I give you BA, then this Q isn't fixed? lol
@YK, yup it was KONJ :]. To be fair, he didn't have a lot of time to really fill me in on why he thought it was better.

It's more fundamentally sound, and actually a lot more fun to watch sometimes. Rivalries are more real and exciting, games are more closely contested, and these guys are doing it for an education, not millions of dollars. You can see the passion on the court where as, in the NBA, you don't usually see it in the 4th quarter or the playoffs. Also, college basketball, there are such things as upsets. In the NBA, everyone has the same ability to go out and get players to win with. In college basketball, the rich always stay rich, so when a small team beats a big one, even in the regular season, it is genuinely exciting. I prefer NBA Playoffs to NCAA regular season, but if either the NBA Playoffs or the NCAA Tournament had to go, I would choose to save the Tournament.
As an Ohio State fan (all sports), I follow the Big Ten, and as a student at San Jose State, I follow the WAC. I usually keep up with the teams on the West Coast (my namesake) like the Big West and Pac 10. I also follow the Big East and ACC because they're teams are just so good.
Yes, there should be, because they really are two different fan bases. Also, Kobe Lebron questions clutter up this one, and college questions on here usually get passed over.

I posted on the last question and haha everybody knew it was me that finds it better
The rivalries in college are much more intense than in the NBA. In college many times one of the 3 biggest goals in the season is to beat your rival team.
The crowd intensity is always at its height and they never let down not even for one play, wether they are down by 15 or up by 20.
The crowd intensity has a really large affect on the game.
The players also play their hearts out on every play and never take a play off. Every time the ball hits the floor players are diving everywhere trying to get it, players are sacrifing themselves diving into the stands for loose balls.
In the NBA sometimes if its a 20+ point lead players may pack it up and get ready for next game, but in College no matter what the score if they would put their best effort foward into tying the game or trying to make a comeback.
You can see the passion of the game when these college kids play. They are not getting paid unlike NBA players and they are putting their best effort foward just for the pride of their school.
In college they let their emotion show, and show just how much they care about winning the game. You can see the pain of a defeat,or the thrill of victory.
In the NBA not every game counts as much, and some games teams take the day off.
In college the games come down to the wire at least 70% of the time. The games are closer, there are more buzzer beaters, and many more game changing plays that shift the momentum and change the outcome of the game.
the NCAA Tournament is the greatest thing in sports. 65 schools playing for a chance at the crown, win or go home. There is nothing more exciting to me.
I love the NBA though too, I love Basketball, I love everything about Basketball.
I think there should be a seperate section for College so we can answer College questions when we wish, whether the section is less active or not. Id probably be a Top 10 answerer easily in a College Section lol.
I follow North Carolina and Rutgers as you know.
Im glad I incluenced this question, glad to see I encouraged some people lol
I also think there should be questions about playing basketball and not just watching as well.
College BBall and the NBA are great.
Basketball is the best sport on the planet!

An advantage of watching College basketball is knowing a players strengths and weaknesses before they enter the NBA. I'll take Blake Griffin for example since he came into this years draft. Everyone who doesn't watch college basketball knows his name because he constantly showed up on ESPN. All they knew was that he was a great big man with a lot of talent. To them, he is the next "big thing." If you actually watch college basketball you would know that he can only score around the basket, he is a good rebounder, he can't shoot free throws [around 55%], He has no jumper, and at 6'8 he is an undersized PF. So for people that watch college ball, they already know what they are expecting out of Griffin, while others might be let down when they see that his skill set is limited.
NCAA is also a lot more exciting than the NBA. The reason being is because they are all young and filled with energy. almost every player works hard on the offensive side of the ball and most importnantly the defensive side of that ball. Having a 10 point lead with 2 minutes left doesn't even gurantee you a win because teams erase a defecit so quickly in college basketball. Once you get to learn the rivalries and all the teams, you can get really into it. Also, the players are playing for their school and their state as well as trying to make it to the next level. So they are giving everything they have on the floor. In the NBA, some players seem to just give up once they sign their first big contract. idk... it's just really exciting hahah.
I'm an Illinois Fighting Illini fan because, well I'm from Illinois and they are the best team in our state. I also root for the Texas Longhorns because Texas is my favorite college football team so I root for them in basketball as well. I hate Ohio State and Florida with all my heart though.
I don't think there should be a seperate section for college basketball because no one on here ever talks about college basketball due to the fact that most people on here are 11-14 years old and are not really interested in college basketball.
I like NCAA and NBA equally, but I think more people should consider watching college basketball. You learn so much more about the players and it gives you a different view of basketball.

Reasons why college is better
Higher intensity- Players play harder, the crowd is louder. Not saying the NBA isn't intense, but these guys are all in their late teens, and for many of them, it is their last chance to play organized basketball.
Requires more strategy- The primary difference between the NBA and college. Many NBA players did not dominate college, but were superior athletes who developed skills when they entered the NBA. In college, you can use certain systems to shut down the more athletic players.
Emphasize on roles- Most teams have a scorer, passer, rebounder, defenders, shooters, slashers, ect. They don't have multi-skilled players often. Some view this as a pro, others as a con.
Better skilled dominate- Systems are used to shut down the more athletic kids, and most of the time, the better handlers, shooters, and more polished players see more success
Reasons why NBA is better
Better players- Pretty obvious. They take the best athletes from the college game, so they can beat the systems. Then they throw them in a gym for 2-3 years, and bam! They have the same skills as those college kids, but now with a 45 inch vert
No guys there due to height- Any person 7 feet tall will get a scholarship. There are about 1000 7 footers in the US trying to compete for only a few center spots. Not to mention another 1000 from over seas. In college, they'll take anyone of these guys, simply because they are such a presence. In the NBA, they are able to select the 3-5 from each draft class that have NBA talent.
Faster pace, more exciting- Pretty simple, shorter shot clock, more play-makers, better athletes. Results in a more uptempo game
Franchise players- Unlike college, you can see your favorite player on your favorite team for 10-15 years, instead of 1 or 2
They are both great. I prefer the NBA, simply because it's the best players, but I do like the strategy and intensity of college.

In my opinion, College Basketball is more fast paced than NBA, which is somewhat more fun watch. And probably the love of the fans and all the noise they make makes it more exciting. But that's just me.
Although you can't really compare college basketball to the NBA, you can't just say College Basketball>NBA or vice-versa. They're both still basketball, but there's still a bit of difference between them.
I follow two teams: UNC Tar Heels and ADMU (Ateneo de Manila University) Blue Eagles.
Nah, there's no need to separate College Basketball. Basketball is basketball. Even if it was separated, there should be at least a NBA Section.

Honestly, I love both college and professional basketball, so it is difficult for me to say one is better than the other. They both have redeeming qualities which give them their own unique form of entertainment.
-Pro basketball has the world's elite talent competing against each other, something college is unable to offer. It has the superstars, Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Carmelo, DH12, etc. My issue with it is that the officiating is questionable at best, and there are too many franchises who seem to refuse to take the steps to be competitive.
-College BBall has its own set of amazing qualities. The kids just seem to try harder, leave their heart and soul on the court, win or lose. It has the tournament, which is my favorite time of the entire year basketball wise. It gives you underdogs to root for, those ethical quandries which just kill me (I love this underdog but I picked the other team?), and the cinderella! I don't really have issues with college bball.
Best I can do, its so difficult to choose one, so I watch both!
I follow UMass. Im a student there so I attend all the games cheering for the minutemen. Plus the school has a rich history, we have hall of famer Julius Erving, Marcus Camby, and then for some reason UMass is a coaching factory, with Rick Pitino (Louisville), John Calipari (Kentucky), and Al Skinner (Boston College). I love going to the games, even though we aren't any good right now, lol.
No, I don't think there should be 2 sections for pro and college basketball, I like being able to get my basketball fix on one page! Haha
- Anonymous1 decade ago
College players actually play team basketball, i think that's because they have more respect for their coaches.
But NBA is better to watch i guess.
I don't follow any team in college, well, KU is the most popular here (i live in Kansas) but i don't like them. I would follow K-State.
And there shouldn't be different sections. Y!A made this sections for basketball questions so everybody can ask and answer here. Or else college section will be like holidays section - many visitors in march then almost none lol.

I knew it was KONJ.
College Basketball is not better to me. They are about equal.
The Texas Longhorns and NC TarHeels
There should be a FIBA Section and a College Basketball Section. Basketball is not only the NBA.
You should get into college basketball. You would love March Madness.

Because we can see how good young players are even before they play in their debut game in NBA, but I think college players can be overrated though, example is Emeka Okafor and JJ Redick, both were stars at NCAA, but in NBA they're only role players, well maybe Okafor isn't that bad but compare to his NCAA accomplishment, it's a joke.
Why is college basketball better? I don't know because I think NBA is better.
Which college team do you follow? Uconn
Do you think there should be a separate section for College Basketball? No
- Anonymous1 decade ago
lmao...Did KONJ say that college ie better?? KONJ is obsessed with College Basketball.
I don't think NCAA is better than NBA. The NBA is the most entertaining sport in the world!
But...NCAA has more clutch performances and there are more buzzer beaters.
UCLA!!!
lol. The section would be dead then lol. On the first page, the first question asked would be asked about 2 hours ago lol.
edit: It was KONJ? Really? Wow I'm physic lol
