I would like to get rid of an old computer?
But want to erase my personal things from the hard drive. How do I do this? It's mostly just pictures but I did do banking and bill paying so want to make sure that no one would be able to get any of my personal info.

download Linux and install that on your old computer and try it out it is the most secure operating system there is then get to know the power of Linux.
Linux is better than windows 7, Mac OS/x if you still want to give your old computer away then it has a operating system on it for the next people to use,
download Linux from the web links below
once Linux is installed no one will be able to get to your old files, it is a different hard drive format. and by the end of this year you will be hearing alot about Linux, it will be on mobile phones and notebook computers everywhere. t is going to knock the Mac and Windows and the Iphone badly

Download the "Boot And Nuke" utility. Burn it to a CD and boot your old computer from the CD. Follow the directions to erase your hard drive.
