Am I allowed to make changes throughout the year to my 2008 income taxes?

I filed my income taxes online on time through Netfile, and I can go online and view my government account on "my account". Now, what I am wondering is, even though there is a cut-off date, April 15th to have your taxes done, is there a cut-off time to make changes to them? or can I do tht all year round?

Update:

To specify, I forgot to add deductions...can i go back and add them in anytime?

You have to make changes though an Amendment to your Taxes and it can take up to 16 weeks to process you know and it has to be done by paper/mail not online.

You can paper file an amendment form (1040X), this form is available on the IRS website (http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc308.html), you would have fill this form and mail it in since the IRS does not accept this form through e-file.

You can check on when your refund will be released by clicking on the Where's My Refund? Link at http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596...

You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 they should be able to help.

For the future you can try http://www.filelate.com/ this is an online tax Service i've used and they are helpful at answering my question,

    Good Luck :-)

    1. Yes, you can make changes, but not online. Once you file once for a year, whether electronically or on paper, the only way to make a change is with a paper Form 1040X. You can send this by U.S. mail or various other (more expensive) carriers. You cannot make any changes electronically, even before April 15.

    2. April 15 is not an absolute cut-off date. If you miss that date, you can still file. However (i) any refund to which you are entitled will be delayed, and (ii) if you are late and owe money, then there will be a penalty.

    NOT exactly.

You have to file a 1040X, an amended return.

Sooner you do it, the better off you are.

These forgotten deductions may actually make NO difference in the bottom line of your tax return. Check that out first.

Amended returns are paper returns, and mailed to IRS, although you can work them out online.

4/15 is the due date for 1040s.

3 years later is the due date for filing a 1040x to update it. The 1040x is not a trivial step--it can take 12-16 weeks to process it.

Why is your original return wrong?

The allowance for changes depends on exactly what is being changed.
