Okay, I just bought a farm and I want to ... do what with it? What kind of equine center? Am I going to need cows or dressage letters? A cross country course or a training track?
For this question, I am going to assume it is an eventing barn because that is what I would open if I ever was able to :)
So, I have a farm. Do I already have:
A barn with a minimum of eight stalls (am I boarding?)
A few acres of pasture (more for more boarded horses)
An indoor because no one wants to ride outside in the winter here
An outdoor because no one wants to ride in the indoor in the summer
(and since I have unlimited hypothetical funds, my indoor and barn is heated)
Maybe another outdoor, one more made for dressage (or jumping if the other was more dressagey)
A XC course. So another few acres for that.
A tack room. No one likes keeping their saddle in their car.
A wash rack
Stuff I need to buy/acquire:
A smart business person. Partners are invaluable in business. This person can double as a spare trainer, but mainly they would be the accountant/marketing/business person.
A horse. Or five.
Some spare in-case-of-emergency tack
Blankets
Shampoo, conditioner, grooming supplies
A small arsenal of first aid supplies (for both horses and humans)
Polo wraps, bandages, boots, etc
Buckets galore
A wheelbarrow
A rake/muck pick and shovel
Dumpsters
Hay (and enough to last through an emergency)
Supplements and grain
A rolodex to hold the vet and farrier and owner numbers
A lawyer to make up a nice contract so boarders can't sue me when they fall off
A phone and a website so that people can contact me and learn more about my barn
A trailer and a truck that can tow it
An arena grating thingie and tractor (cannot remember what this is called for some reason!)
Some high school kids from down the street that really want to muck stalls in exchange for a lesson.
And loads of other stuff. I think I listed most of the basics, and you would accrue more over time, but I know I am missing some very important things. I don't really know what it would take to open up this kind of facility since I have never done it before. If this is something you are thinking of doing, I would call around to your local farms and ask them what they started out with and what they would have done differently. What is something that they cannot do without (be it their wash rack, spare saddle, or groom)?

- A partner
- Connections
- At least 2 horses, a mare and a stallion
- A couple homebreds that you trained yourself
- Good boarding facility
- Offer reasonably priced boarding and lessons with a professional
- Offer your stallion up for stud
- Buy a trained horse, compete it for a couple months, if it does really well, offer it up for sale at a worthy price.
- Make your facility as clean as possible.
- Hire a working student.
- Get a second income to help you.
- Compete frequently
- Post advertisements with pictures for your farm's boarding, your stallion at stud, your horse for sale, etc.
- Make it clear what you're teaching and embracing at your farm. To event, hunter jumper classes, dressage, jumping, all, etc.
- Be friendly and welcoming to whoever stops by
- Put the horse's care first.
- Have a chosen vet that you'll hire to take care of your horses once a year or when needed
- Choose a specific farrier you'd like to come on a scheduled basis.
Those are some basics.

First factor i could purchase is a Manage. Or Area anything you wish to name it, then relying on what the stables are like already there i could construct a beautiful modern day steady block :D Then i consider i could fence the fields adequately and ensure there all correct.
