Is bladder pain always a UTI?
Hi, I have had frequent UTI's in the past until a doctor commented that it might have something to do with the detergent I was using. Sounds strange, but I changed to a no-scent anti-allegen kind and I haven't had one since.
This morning, around 4 am I woke up with the worst bladder pain. It felt like I'd been holding my urine for days, not the 2 hours since I'd last peed (late night!). I woke up again 3 hours later with the same horrible pain, same need to pee.
All day today my bladder has hurt really bad, with an acute pain when it is full, and an ache after I empty. To me, that says a UTI, but I'm not having any of the other symptoms, like the "burning" or any of that.
Also, just to add, I drink tons of water daily. Starting this morning I added the cranberry juice too (I keep it in my fridge for times like this!)
So my question is: Is bladder pain ALWAYS a UTI, or can it be something else? Thank you! :)
Just to add: I just have a shower, not a bathtub, so no bubble baths for me ;)
Also, I did have a UTI get so bad last year it turned into a kidney infection...NOT FUN! Do not want to go that route again..

It can be something else. You are probably sensitive to the detergent you were using. That causes irritation of the uretha, which gets inflamed and becomes a breeding ground for bacterial infections, which then travel into the bladder.
The pain you are having now really does sound like a UTI. I would certainly treat it as one and get to my doctor quickly. A severe (read very painful) UTI can quickly become a kidney infection, which is more serious.
To answer your primary question, "yes," bladder pain could come from an obstruction, from kidney stones, and from a number of other conditions. But, the most common source of bladder pain and urgency is a UTI.

No, bladder pain is not always a UTI. The bladder pain that your describing sounds simliar to a condition I have, which is IBS. However, it sounds like you have a kind of sideways form of IBS. Your bladder pain could be caused by an alergy to food. Also, if you take lots of bubble baths, or baths with anything extra in it, that causes a lot of UTIs. Some women don't get all the symptoms as well. I never burn or anything like that, I always just feel like I have to go.
Good luck (:

To me it almost seems more like a bladder infection, rather then a UTI. You should definitely make an appointment with a doctor to get it checked out rather then waiting to see if it goes away, bladder infections aren't like UTI's they can't really be flushed away.
