Tips to take back a dog?

I have 2 chihuahua's and 1 male schipperke. Who are very territorial.

About 3 years ago they had a puppy, who I had to give away.

The other dog is Emmie, and was born with sort of an anxiety streak, but at the time was extremely friendly.

The person who had her abused her, mis fed her, and tied her up all night.

Now hopes I can re acclimate Emmie back into my home, problem is living by my self and working all day. Will only be able to care for her at night and week ends.

A friend says it may be best for a week to keep Emmie in a dog pen with food and drink during the day so they can see each other, but only be out when can be home so they don't pick a fight.

Has anybody tried this or tips.

Update:

Thanks !! Emmie was born here with my current dogs, so in time she may remember some...

But it will still take some time and patience :))

I would not suggest leaving the dogs free and unattended when you are gone. Put the dog in a kennel with a little water away from the other dogs when you are not home. (food should only be given once or twice a day not left out all day.) They should not see each other because the lose dogs may torment the kenneled dog. You are the alpha and need to supervise the dogs getting to know and accept each other. It may be the new dog may never be able to be left lose when you are gone. that is ok. All dog are different and must be treated as individuals for their own good. There are several good books out about having multiple dog families. You may want to check one out.

That is true. Do not leave Emmie unattended with the others, it can cuase serious territorial/dominance problems. Allow them to acclimate to each other at a slow pace.
