my pap smear results came back negative, is that a good thing??

That's a good thing. It should be negative. When a Pap Smear is negative it means your cervix is normal - it's not infected or cancerous or anything to that effect.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a medical professional. With this small amount of info, i will just say what 'negative' has always meant to me from my doctor.
With my doctor, to have a NEGATIVE Pap smear has always meant that there was nothing found. NO BAD CELLS were found (they are looking for abnormal cells, like cancer cells). But if you are still worried, just call your doctor. He or she should understand your need to feel secure about this.
Maybe some nurse or doctor will read your question and answer, but in the mean time, I added my answer because it is late and you may be sitting there fretting. I hope a few encouraging answers will ease your mind. :) thank you.

pap smears are usually classified as normal or abnormal. but negative is just another way of saying there is nothing wrong - in this case, cervical cancer.

Negative means there is nothing there. Negative on any potential results.

negative means you do not have HPV or the human papaloma virus. so yes. in this case negative is a positive
