How long has this been going on? Is it getting better, worse, no change? You should definitely see your doctor if it doesn't go away by tomorrow. It could be diverticulitis - a sort of inflammation of the colon. It could be a kidney stone if it's more towards your back under your ribs.
My husband has diverticulitis & had kidney stones and says your description could be either.

Could be any number of things from minor to very serious. Go to an urgent care clinic if your primary care doctor can't fit you in today. Urgent care clinics take most all insurances and you get in to see the Dr. MUCH quicker than you would at the ER. Also, they charge about the same as a regular doctors office visit.
