Could anybody tell me how much a Playstation 3 costs in the US?
A friend is travelling from Australia to the US next month, a PS3 over here still costs around $800 from what old me can see. If I can see a huge difference in price, even with the exchange rate, I would like to figure out if it's worth trying to get one in the US to bring back. Does anybody know if they are sold in duty free shops? Thanks from a Mum in Australia.

Well, that depends. Theres diffrent gigs, color, hardrive, and stuff like that.
The most commonly found is regular stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, ect., is the 40G 'Piano' Black Playstation at roughly $399.
I myself have 2 Playstations, the one I just mentioned, and a nice Silver 80G.
The prices might be abit high at the moment, but they've dramiticly dropped, and still might if you want to wait. But I find it worth every penny. Wireless rechargable controllers, Blu-Ray player for movies, exlcusive games, and the internet is completely free if you have wifi.
Also, you may play Playstation 2 games on Playstations 60G and above. But im starting to sound like a Sony sellsman now. lol :) I hoped this helped.

There are several other models for the ps3. In the US, the 80gb ps3 is about $500. Sony may have begun producing a new model that does not include ps2 and ps backwards compatability, so you should google this before buying anything.
Also Australia may have a different region coding than North America. Currently, all ps3's can play games made in/for any country because the games have not been region coded yet, but the ps3 system is region coded. This means that if the games are ever region coded, you will only be able to play games made for that region. But as of now, you are in the clear. This is just something to consider.

400$ in Canada. US money worth 5% more than Canada money so roughly 400$ in the US for the 80gb model and 500$ for the 160gb model.
Australia? Cool xD
But I'm not sure if US ps3 can play Australian PS3 games. You'd have to make sure that it does.
