home theater question please explain?

should digital sound be more quiet than analog. I have gotten answers that conflict each other and want to this to bed. can anyone help?

    There is no clearcut answer to that. It depends on the equipment being used. Are you talking about audio or video? Digital is not subject to issues like tape noise or record surface noise that analog was, but the level of noise is a function of the equipment being used to play the recording. Inferior equipment will typically contain noisier circuits.
