" Cohetes" are very common all over mexico. they are used at every little festival at every little church on their saint day and for all kinds or reasons, and often for no reason at all. Many people just like to shoot them off whenever. It scares the dogs to death, esp. dogs who have moved from the U.S. to Mexico.

There are no holidays in August ,civic stautory or otherwise.

I think you speak some Spanish. There is always something to celebrate as you know. You may want to ask your neigbor Por Que Tantos Cohetes?? or Que estan celebrando?

I heard they changed the school holidays to one month and that month was August but did not apply to all schools.

There are Bodas and lots of 15 anos and birthdays that keep me awake for hours on end. Then "Buddy" comes first thing in the morning screaming BOLILLOS hay BOLIOLLO followed by three guys that would have made great "Town Criers" GAS...GAS..GAS!!!!
