Going to NYC in Sep...i need tips. please?

My boyfriend moved to NYC a few months ago and I am visiting him in Sep. from the 5th to the 13th. I am really excited and I have a few questions. He will be working most of the day...and im hoping i can go explore on my own...other times i will be going with his sister.

Is it difficult to understand how to travel on the subway?

I like art and museums and stuff...i will be going to most of the museums with him...but i was wondering which are the little non-touristy galleries and/or museums i could go to on my own...and how to get there. Any tips on where else to go?? Or tips in general about NYC? thanks.

Well, if this you first time traveling to New York City, it will be a little difficult to ride the subway without a subway map. Most of the subway line that goes through Manhattan either run express or local. Therefore a subway map, which is free at all subway station in the city, is very much essential.

Please note, the fare on the subway is $2.25 per ride, per person. However, since the two of you are going to be in town for a week, may I recommend you each purchase a 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard for $27 a person. The 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard comes in handy when making multiple trip.

In regards to museums that are not touristy, may I recommend a few.

The Bronx Museum of Art, located on 167th Street and the Grand Concourse

The Cloister Museum, located in Fort Tryon Park in Inwood.

Brooklyn Museum, located at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.

I hope this infomration is very helpful.

    Good luck

To answer your subway question, it can be hard if you don't have a map or anything. But if you use this MTA Trip Planner, it would be much easier to find your way around. Click on the link at the bottom and type in where your trip starts. Then fill in where you are planning to go. Click if you want to go by MTA bus and subway or just subway which ever one you want. It will tell you as many ways as possible to get to your destination. IT will tell you how far to walk to the subway/bus stop and it will tell you which bus/train to take, what stop to get off, transfer, such on.
