Harry Potter question...Draco Malfoy?

I just really wanted to ask a question about Draco Malfoy..

I was reading the 4th book, in the forest after the world cup, and Draco was telling them to run away unless they wanted to be killed (I am referring Hermione, Ron and Harry)

which got me thinking,

If Draco was given another opportunity to either save their life, or not (not that he was here...but he was sorta not telling them in the 7th book, my memory is cloudy :(....), do you think he would? I can give an example to help..

Lets say Draco knew where a bunch of Death Eaters were meeting and he spotted the golden trio hanging around just before, and Draco knew that the Death Eaters would kill on the spot if they saw them, do you think he would warn them or not really do anything, as he doesn't really care?

Its more of an opinion question, but after Harry said that he didn't think Draco would have done it, I am starting to wonder about Draco..

what are your thoughts?

Update:

And I know he did try to kill Harry and all, but I was just wondering..becasue I think he was ordered to go after him, but I still can't remember, but here, it not that he HAS to kill them..its that..he HAS the OPPORTUNITY to save them.

Hmmm, toughie, considering Draco's conflicting emotions. I would say that in the situation you describe Draco would feel equally as uncertain but that in the end I guess that he would probably stop the trio from walking into any such trap. I say this because as we saw in the 6th book, he can't kill Dumbledore because he can't take that level of violence. Some people would argue that Draco was simply to much of a coward to follow through with Voldermort's plan, but I think it was because in his heart he truly did not want Dumbledore dead. I think his lack of taste for such extreme violence is highlighted by the fact that he cries from the stress of the task (and probably from the guilt of harming others - Ron and Katie Bell) from his "attempts" on Dumbledore's life earlier. (Which he probably did simply so that it would look like he was trying -- the necklace and the mead I mean).

If Draco really was simply a coward he would let the Trio walk into this trap, but in my opinion he would feel the need to warn them because he couldn't take the guilt of knowing he could have stopped it.

First off I would like to say that Tom Felton, although attractive annoys the crap out of me in the movie versions. I know it isn't his fault, the ones that write his part just make him look so much like a pansy and a coward, which his character is actually supposed to be, but it just annoys me slightly. The book just shows more of the complexities of the character, but I digress. I genuinely like Draco as a character, because he has some good lines, in the books. He also comes into his own as all the rest of the characters, I do not enjoy his racist tendencies, but I know why they are there. By book 6 he is facing the reality of being a follower of Voldy and it scars the crap out of him. He, even being a guy that shares some of voldy's visions, knows that voldy is truly a mad man and needs stopped and he knew Harry enough to know that he would be the only one to do it. I believe that is one of the reasons he pretended to not recognize them when they were captured and taken to Malfoy manor. He didn't even put up much of a fight when Harry took the wands from him in their escape from malfoy manor. He didn't try to kill Harry at the Castle and when they were trapped in the room of requirement with the fiendfyre, Harry saved him and didn't hurt him. Harry started to see that Malfoy was selfish and horrible, but not an evil person like voldy when he saw the hesitancy on top of the tower when he aimed to kill Dumbledore. In the end the trio owes Malfoy a life debt, from the manor and malfoy owes the trio a life debt from the castle and Harry also owes Narcissa a life debt. So they are in each others debt and I am sure that is annoying, but it shows that although the malfoy's sparring Harry's life is backed by selfish motives it also shows they are not wholly bad, which is what makes him different than that of Voldy. Lastly, Draco is a creature of comfort and a slytherin, Voldy made his life uncomfortable, he liked doing nothing and having lots of money, all he really wanted was that back and he knew to get it back he had to get rid of voldy, so selfishly done, but it also kind of makes him human and in his humaness, forgiveable. There is a quiet respect between Harry and Draco, hence the respectible nod shared between them on platform 9 and 3 quarters in the epilouge. Yes long and drawn out answer, but hope it helps.

Along with the pressure of living up to the Malfoy name and working under Lord Voldemort, Draco was normally very conflicted. He had a good heart and strong will but was ordered to kill and hurt others. Draco looked up to Dumbledore too. He tried everything to find a way to trick Voldemort and disobey him. But being continually threatened for the lives of his parents, he sees no choice. When it comes to it though, actually killing Dumbledore, he couldn't do it. I think that he didn't really hate Potter either. Maybe he was only expected to so that's why he tried and acted.

i don't think that he would warn them, mostly because he would be afraid of the death eaters. however, i don't think that draco would be cruel enough to kill them himself. like in the last book *spoilers*, when harry ron and hermione are caught by death eaters and brought to the malfoys house, draco says he can't tell whether they're the golden trio or not. all in all, i think that draco's just scared [and let's face it, most people would be].

I think he would go up to them and be his usual smart-*** self, and say something along the lines of "Oh, theres a group of Death Eaters coming, your all going to get killed. Maybe Ill help." Or something like that, as some kind of twisted warning. I mean, he is Draco Malfoy XD

I agree for the most part

He would save them. He is not as bad as you all think. It's just what he was taught from his father. His fathers always telling him "you have to do this and this and this" and its's not fair putting him under pressure like that. Draco never wanted to be a death eater, bully, or do any of this, but he had to, to please his father. He never really truely hated Potter, Weasly, and Granger.

i think draco would warn them... because draco was just ordered to kill harry... he's not really a bad person... he's just being pressured by his parents and voldemort and all the death eaters to kill harry... he doesnt have the guts to actually kill anyone... remember in hp6., he hesitated in killing dumbledore...

  • i think deep down Draco was good and if he had the opportunity ti save them i think he would espically during the war when he himself was also scared and he would have some idea how terrible the world would be if Voldemort won. so yes i believe he would save them if he had the chance.

I don't think he would kill Harry, because then he would have no further way to be implemented in the book for one thing, and he wants to tease Harry as much as he can, so if he keeps him around, the bullying continues

  • As much as I love him, I think he'd be a bit too much of a ******* to save them :P Now, if you mean if he were posed to kill them himself, I think he would definitely chicken out. He's too soft-hearted inside to go through with murder. :)
