Any additives for Lifter Knock?

Is there any additives to add to the engine to help with Lifter Knock. It seems to be getting worse through the year. I know that sooner or later they will need to be changed but budgets tight. The car that is having the issues is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with a 3.1 Liter with 170000 miles.

ca.alert and scratch pad are right. If you use the atf, (it will work as a detergent) only use for 5 or 10 minutes in the driveway, no load. If you use the Rislone, you can run a bottle just like the same amount of oil.

    I would do both.

Your goal is to remove sludge that is clogging your lifters.

Put a bottle of Rislone in now, then when you're ready to change your oil, and your oil level is a little low, put in a quart of trans fluid and let it idle for about 5 minutes. Then drain the oil while it's still hot.

Use a good Napa Gold or Wix filter and some synthetic or synthetic blend oil. (Both also act as a detergent to some degree)

But definitely change your filter and use a good one, as the sludge will come loose and you don't want a cheap filter that will clog, or collapse internally.

There was an additive called Rislone By Quaker State I don't know if it still exists in the usa gone from Canada shelves.

If you find no alternatives, you can use safely a Quart of varsol in addition to your NEW oil and run it for 100 miles and you will notice a change in engine noise, for the better.

If you find Rislone follow the instructions to the letter and you win.

I know You will check their site. Rislone Engine additive. Good look

You will be fine 100% Guaranteed

the main undemanding reason for engine knocking is discover of the incorrect octane gas. verify the handbook to make certain what octane the automobile demands. The engine knocking will pass away as quickly as the main suitable octane gas is in the automobile yet prolonged used of the incorrect gas could reason injury. that's rather unlikely this has something to do with the oil.

Source(s): When I did it actually used the stuff that is "designed" to do that. It small and tastes like atf, don't ask!!!. I put it in and ran it at idle for five minutes, as per instructions, and emptied the oil. It worked like a champ. Later I saved a lot of money and used actual ATF and did the same. It worked like a champ.
