High mileage oil vs synthetic blend?

I've got a Honda Civic 1997, with over 330,000kms (≈205,000 miles), that burns oil, i believe it is about half a litre for every 2 fill ups. I've been using high mileage 5w-30 oil in it till now, but the store has a sale on synthetic blend oil, its less than regular oil, for gods sake its less than 1l of conventional high mileage! Would one be preferred over the other? If the high milage stuff is prefered, is the synthetic blend stuff, a LOT worse, cause at this price...

Dang, that's a lot of burnt oil for a small engine. I'd try the oil that's on sale to see if it turns out better or not. If the blend burns off just as quickly or worse, I'd go for the cheapest oil I can get and a good filter; if the car is going to burn oil no matter what, might as well use less money on it.

My car burned about a quart every 3,000 miles and has improved since I put in mid-grade gasoline so that's what I'm using now (maybe has to do with the timing?). I was changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles using the cheapest oil from Walmart but since it improved, I'm trying out better oils that can go for 5,000 miles.

Valvoline Max Life and Quaker State make a synethic blend and a full synthetic for high mileage engines. I would switch to 10W-40 for the benefit of a slightly higher viscosity oil.

Many of the parts under pressure need more bearing cushion and the heavier weight will provide that.

I would switch to High Mileage, but stick with the same vescosity that the car recommends. Switching to synthetic is bad news especially with that many miles.

Throw some new rings in there and you wont burn oil anymore but if you dont have the time or whatever get a higher viscosity oil and see if it still burns oil if it does then just buy the cheapest oil you can find no use using high quality oil if it going to burn up in 3000 miles

the synthetic blend won't hurt anything, try the higher weight oil though.
