The "current favorite" means very little when the World Series champ is celebrating on the field. Being the favorite, winning the division, even the league pennant means nothing. It works the same way if the Athletics had the best record right now. In fact, if any of my teams has the best record, wins a division, or has some other accolade to their credit - it would still mean nothing.

All that matters to me is the team that wins the championship. Not statistics. Not speculation. Not fantasy leagues. Nothing.

If the playoffs started today, the Yankees would probably be the favorite to win the World Series. But any baseball fan should know that you can't be making assumptions like that in mid-August.

Didn't they sweep a 5-game set at Fenway in 07 or 08 and not win it all then either?

Lee could go 3 times in 7 games and he will and can shut down NYY hitters. Then add in the rest of their pitching.

They are the favorite, and they WILL make the playoffs, but its about the playoffs, they can easily win the championship every year but if one pitcher gets hurt or goes in a slump, they don't have a backup so they can be in trouble, you never know. But things are looking great. It feels awesome to be a Yankees fan right now.

they will go deep into the playoffs but i think the phillies (as much as i hate them) are looking really good.
