DNA hybridization question...help please...?

A DNA chip is hybridized with fluorescently labeled reverse-transcribed DNA, where the control mRNA (C ) is labeled with a green fluor and the experimental mRNA (E ) with a red fluor. Indicate what you can conclude about the relative levels of expression of a spot in the mircroarray that fluoresces:

a)Red

b)Green

c)Yellow

d)Orange

e)Lime Green

So, I guess you need some basic knowledge in color mixtures to answer this question (see attached link)

As you can see, the spectrum goes from

red -> orange -> yellow -> lime green -> green

It's a gradient between the two colors, when you have 50% red and 50% green, you have yellow, 75% red and 25% green, it's orange. It's kind of like mixing colors in grade school.

So the control DNA is the "golden standard" for you to compare your experimental DNA and evaluate its quantity. Like the example above, if you have a lot of control DNA, and minimal experimental DNA (it's like 85% green, and 15% red, it would give you lime green)

    Therefore,

    a) experimental DNA out-competes standard DNA = very high expression

    b) opposite as above = very low expression

    c) same as control DNA in terms of expression level

    d) high expression (orange is very close to red)

    e) low expression (lime is very close to green)

    I hope it helps :)
