    Not sure if they still do. But Uniroyal tire used the "tiger paw" as an advertising metaphor. In the ads they would show a tire on a car, then morph the tire into a tiger's paw, indicating agility, traction, toughness.

    John Deere (Deere, founders last name) uses a deer animal "Nothing runs like a Deere (deer)" comparing the swiftness, mobility, yet gentleness of the animal are the same attributes as the product.

    A metaphor is a comparison. While a simile uses "like" or "as" (strong as an ox, ran like the wind) a metaphor doesn't. He's a cheetah on the track. Lightning flashed in the heavy, leaden clouds.

    A metaphor is a comparison between two objects Using the word is

    The bread is a rock.

    that girl is a toad.

    The difference between a simile and a metaphor is that similes use like or as:

    a simile :

    The bread was as hard as a rock.

    The girl is like a toad.

    A metaphor is a way of comparing two things with out using comparative words like, like or as;

    Example;

    The ice skater was a graceful swan.

    That is a metaphor.

    Non-Example;

    The ice skater was LIKE a graceful swan.

    That is a simile that uses comparative words.

    Examples of metaphors:

    The snow is a white blanket.

    The rain is an ocean.

    Her brain is a computer.

    The comparison:

    snow and a blanket

    rain and the ocean

    brain and computer

    meaning:

    the snow is so white.

    it was raining a lot.

    She is so smart.

    I hope these examples helped. :)

    metaphors draw the picture of one thing so that we can see the real thing:

    having a root canal was like having a wood rasp taken to my gums

    or another example would be :

    All the world's a stage,

    And all the men and women merely players;

    They have their exits and their entrances; — (William Shakespeare, As You Like It, 2/7)

    Source(s): a figure of speech and or phrase that portrays one word as being or equal to a second object in some way. This device is known for usage in literature, especially in poetry, where with few words, emotions and associations from one context are associated with objects and entities in a different context. It compares two subjects without using 'like' or 'as'. Compared to simile, the metaphor takes us one step further than the simile. Instead of asking us to picture one thing as being like another, the metaphor asks us to picture one thing as being the other. wikipedia

    Metaphor is when you use two nouns and compare or contrast them to one another. Unlike simile, you don't use "like" or "as" in the comparison.

    From expressions like "it's raining cats and dogs" to "table leg" and "old flame," everyday speech is full of them.
