I'm supposed to argue the weather or not students should get a summer break.?

I need reasons supporting both the benefits of summer break and the disadvantage of our current process's. Please help a ton cause this is a big part of our grade.

Update:

Also, this has to do with high school and below. I am in college though so I need solid-like information.

The concept of a holiday has been recognised from the very earliest times of human history, no doubt shortly after they noticed that their slaves were dying rather fast due to exhaustion. The brain, like the body, needs to be rested from time to time. So I don't think you will ever make a case for no holidays at all but you can make a case that the amount of holidays schools have is excessive.

In industry, you will be lucky to get 20days off per year in addition to normal bank holidays (and before the law changed, many companies gave their staff 20 days off including bank holidays).

A case can be made for the argument that children forget a lot of what is learned as parents don't usually follow up on the learing process during the very long summer holidays.

Perhaps teachers might argue that the school terms are very demanding, not just teaching, but meetings, lesson plans, homework marking etc makes teaching a very stressful profession so they deserve the long summer holidays but this argument would be refuted by doctors, nurses, police, fire, ambulance, coast guard, or other professionals who work equally hard but have far fewer holidays.

Anyway hope these arguments are helpful. Oh and as for the argument about air conditioning, not all offices are air conditioned as the law provides protection for minimum temperature but no protection for maximum protection, many people, even amongst those who work in govermnemt sweat through the summer like so many other people. Although there is an increasing proliferation of air conditioning it is by no means universal.

Advantages: Gives kids a break from work to come back focused and ready to start again. I know i get sick of school by the end and just need some time off. As said already, most schools lack cooling systems so kids get too hot. Its not just about school but about families outside, if they want to travel then they will have the opportunity to. Gives kids a longer time to finish any assignments that overlap years.

Disadvantages: Kids are prone to forgetting things and therefore schools must waste time reviewing instead of progressing to new topics.... Thats all i can think of

schools lack sufficient cooling systems to keep kids in school for the entire summer, it would just be to hot. also schools have to be in session for a number of days by law and just like kids teachers don't wanna be in school during summer. what are you gonna do when you graduate highschool, leave highschool one day and go to college the next?
