Does anyone know if you can pay an early termination fee over time?
My husband and I are in a very tough spot right now. We have a new daughter and lots of medical bills, and a lost job. I'm needing to cut back as much as possible. I've already consolidated my internet and home phone, but now I'm needing to cut back on cell and Direct TV.
We currently have ATT and we each have a 3g iphone. I was wanting to cancel this service and get a go phone or pay as you go. It is $175 each to cancel this service. I was curious if we could cancel now and just pay monthly until it's paid off. Also curious about my Direct TV bill. This is also under contract, but I'm debating on just downgrading the plan instead of disconnecting.
Has anyone else tried to do a monthly fee to cancel?

This is completely up to the company, but probably unlikely to get longer than 60 days to pay. You can try finding someone to take over your services as AT&T will allow you to transfer the contract terms to their name. This would save you the break fees and save them the start up costs.
Your other option would be to suspend your account and sell your Iphones, then use the proceeds to cover your term fees. This shouldn't be too difficult as these are highly sought after phones.
