iPhones 3g and 3gs generations?

So I was wondering if the 3g and the 3gs were different generation phones. I think they are the same, I could be wrong... I haven't found the information after 30 min searching.

The iPhone 2G is the 1st generation.

The iPhone 3G is the 2nd generation.

The iPhone 3GS is the 3rd generation.

(the 2 and 3 G's are just the type of network they are using, the G does not stand for generation.

the iPhone original with a silver back (2 years old), the iphone 3g (a year old) and the newst one the iphone 3gs which came out the year.

so yes they are different generations 3gs being the newer one
