I'm growing pepper plants, do they need to be pollinated?
I have some hydroponic pepper plants growing and flowering. The first bud blossomed, turned brown, and then the stem and flower fell off. Is that just a dud or do I need to pollinate the flowers. I thought they would just make peppers that were clones of the plant like a chicken lays eggs regardless of whether it's fertilized or not.

As u said that ur growing through hydroponics!
Check the fertilizer or nutrition given is specifically recommended for pepper.
If more nitrates are supplemented in the solution, flower buds drop off.
Mostly they are self pollinated hence won't need pollination.
Initial flowers usually drop and then start normal setting.
If flower drop continues increase Potassium fertilizer by a few milli grams in the feed solution.

it is common for pepper flora to abort the 1st actual vegetation that it produces. in case you opt for to ensure pollination, wait till there are quite a few vegetation recent and gently shake the entire plant. Don' touch the vegetation, they're too comfortable. as quickly as pollinated, the vegetation fall off and the end result will style.supply it 3 or 4 days to ensure them.

everything with flowers on it needs pollinated
however some bugs do it also
the flowers fall off and later comes the pepper plant behind it
