How do I use those 2nd icons on my keys?

I have a compaq CQ60 notebook and above keys like the f12 it also has a mini fast forward icon. I wanna know how to use those keys

    would they be for a media player? like to fast forward a song.

    There should be a fn or other key near the control and alt keys that you hold down and press the 2nd keys.
