the sleep button which puts your computer in a low state of power(kind of turns it off till u move the mouse) so say you go some where for like 20-30minuets then you come back just move the mouse (or press the button again) and your computer will start back up the way you left it.

Near your left Ctrl and alt key there should be a FN key. By pressing FN and the corresponding key with blue letters will activate it. So pressing FN and F3 will cause IE or whatever browser is your default to open. F2 is probably the switch between your laptop LCD and an external monitor. . F5 is hibernate or sleep mode. F6 will lock the pc as if you pressed ctrl-alt-del and selected lock, F7 adjusts brightness. Not sure what F4 is..

I'm pretty sure thats the contrast for your computer screen. Sets it from dark to light...
