Canadian and UK citizens, tell me what you like and dislike about your health care system.?
Please, no political rants. This is a serious question.

People who inflict illness on themselves, like people who binge drink, can abuse the system since they don't pay for it. They can keep getting sick and just get free care.
But it's good cos poor people can get care when they need it, unlike countries where you have to pay for it.

I like the fact that it's free and that I get free prescriptions (Under 16) and free treatment.
I dislike the fact that there's always a long wait between appointments. Also the fact that many doctors and nurses just don't care about your well being. My GP has been telling me for years that I'm perfectly fine, in the end it was my podiatrist that got me referred to Great Ormond Street where I've been referred to about eight departments.
Turns out I've got Hypermobility Syndrome, it only took 11 years to find that out. Oh joy. Because it took so long to find out, I'm living with a lot of complications which aren't exactly "fun".
Another think that irks me is that, you make an appointment at the hospital or GP's office and by the time you finally get it you're already better and it was a waste of time. Also many hospitals are severely understaffed and as I said before, many doctors, nurses and GP's don't really care, a lot of them try to make it seem as if what's wrong it *your* fault.
But I suppose at the end of the day it's free, so of course it's no going to be great.

I know this is for the Canadians and Brits, but the Canadians ranked 30 and the Brits ranked 18 on the World Health Organization (W.H.O) ranking. U.S. ranked 37. We are to emulate any nation on universal health care I would say France (they ranked #1) or Italy at #2.

Our health system is not perfect, not by any means - there are waiting lists, there are other issues as well, but when I have been sick, or when my child has been sick, I have received decent service. What more can be said?
I know that if I fall over and break my leg, I can limp off to hospital and get myself sorted out.
