How to hook up stereo receiver to plasma tv and hear sound?

I bought a Panasonic TCP50X1 and have it mounted on the wall. I have 4 speakers in the ceiling and want to know what is the best way to connect speakers to a Pioneer VSX519V Receiver and how to get sound to come out of it. I need to know what to set the TV to and how to set up the receiver for 4 speakers.

To get audio from the TV to the Pioneer connect a coax digital audio cable from the digital audio output on the TV to the digitial audio input on the receiver. This requires an optical audio cable.

Connect the 4 ceiling speakers to the speaker terminals on the back of the Pioneer (left front speaker wire connects to left front speaker terminal on the Pioneer, right front to right front, left rear to left rear, right rear to right rear.

You should definitely purchase a center channel speaker to mount below the TV and connect that to the Pioneer as well. The center channel contains the dialog and is the key speaker for a home theater setup. If you don't want to use a center channel speaker, you'll need to put the Pioneer in phantom center channel mode so it sends the dialog to the left and right speakers instead of the center channel - though having speakers in the ceiling, this won't be a good solution because the dialog will sound like it's coming from the ceiling instead of the screen. Your ceiling speakers will be fine for everything except a center channel - that really should be mounted as close to the screen as possible.

This should do the trick. If you're not getting sound to the receiver, then check the sound options on the TV menu to make sure the digital audio output is turned on. Make sure also that the receiver is set to the digital audio input.

Most TVs will have a digital optical audio output and if your receiver has a digital optical input, get a cable and connect them. If you have a cable box, check that box for a digital optical output also.
