What kind of bird does this tattoo look like? (pic)?

A friend of mine's got this tattoo:

http://www.atomiser.demon.co.uk/misc/birdtattoo.jp...

and what he says it's meant to look like is different to what we think it looks like.

Could somebody who knows about different kinds of birds please suggest whether this tattoo looks like any species of bird in particular?

The bird in the tattoo picture is a swallow, sometimes also called a Bluebird.

The swallow tattoo is closely associated with Jack Tar.

this is definitely a painted bunting. look it up. though it may seem like there is a lot of yellow on the back, when the wings are spread, it looks like the kind of bird tattooed on your friends arm.

It looks like a robin/cardinal, but not just one certain bird, mainly because of it's style and colors.
