YAHOO RETIRING OLD VERSIONS OF Y!M 6.0 to 7.5

People who are using those old versions are getting notifications from Yahoo about needing to update because their version of Y!M will not work after some time in early September. The original retirement date was August 15 but this has been extended. This is a real message and you can read more about it here: http://www.ymessengerblog.com/blog/2009/08/11/6-0-...

If you are using Windows 2000 or XP then you are able to use the latest 9.0.

If you are using Windows 98 or Windows ME then I suggest you download 8.1.0.421 and you can find it here: http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive

If you are not able to do any of these then try Yahoo Messenger for the Web which requires no download or the Yahoo! Mail chat feature that is now in both the All-New Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Classic Mail. For Y!M for the Web: http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/

    for Yahoo Messenger 8.1: http://help.yahoo.com/tutorials/ms9/mess/im_setup2...

One final note be sure to completely uninstall the version you are using now before installing a very different version. First through add/remove programs then navigate to program files (have no idea where this is in Windows ME or 2000) open the Yahoo Folder and delete the messenger folder. Now Reboot! Before installing the one you want. Please note that doing a complete uninstall of Yahoo Messenger will erase your message archives so read here about how to copy them http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messeng...
