Music and New Muslim Revert Question?

i know you guys are probably sick & tired about seeing music question, but i do have a question that has been bothering me.

I listen to mostly Sigur Ros, music without profanity/sex and music like this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqUDeBPTouU and i was wondering is it halal or okay to listen it as long as i don't ignore Allah ( such as salat?) this has been really bothering me. I am going to take shahadah next week and i was wondering. thank you

Update:

Tarre- this "garbage" is better than that stanky leg & miley cyrus crap that is coming out nowadays

Update 2:

Hassan- i'm a female.

i tried to get an avatar up , but it isn't working

I will copy and post my answer and discussion to a similar question, I hope it helps

    ------------------------

No way music is Haram, to try and argue on the bases that some music is bad that is why music is Haram than might as well declare air Haram because some air is bad. Than go and tell a billion or so people living in bad air to hold their breath :)

How do you justify something other than declared Haram in the Quran as Haram?

Are you willing to go against the following words of GOD? The verse is as straight forward a statement as it gets.

And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? [Quran 54:17]

When God found it necessary to forbid (Haram) flesh of swine God specifically and in no ambiguous terms mentioned it in the text of the Quran with the word "Haram" next to it. Why did God not mention dancing and music by name, given the enormous significance of dancing and music across the cultures of the world, it is unthinkable that if God wanted Muslims to give up any particular activity he would not have specifically mentioned it in light of the verses quoted above?

We did not descend the Koran on you to (to) be miserable/unhappy. [Quran 20:02]

One guaranteed way of making people miserable and unhappy will be to tell them what to do and what not to do, mostly that, twenty 24/7.

Instead of quoting weak or fake Hadiths and justifying entire Hadith works by implied meaning is not only illogical but outright criminal

And how the following verse can be used to Justify the ban is beyond comprehension (The word music is not even present in the verse)

    Translation by Yusuf Ali

But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty. [Quran 31:06]

    Another translation

And of mankind is he who payeth for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah's way without knowledge, and maketh it the butt of mockery. For such there is a shameful doom. [Quran 31:06]

And some more with a different take

But among men there is many a one that prefers a mere play with words [to divine guidance], [Lit., "among the people there is he who [or "such as"] takes playful [or "idle"] talk in exchange", i.e., for divine guidance: apparently an allusion to a pseudo-philosophical play with words and metaphysical speculations without any real meaning behind them (cf. note on 23:67). Contrary to what some of the commentators assume, the above statement does not refer to any one person (allegedly a contemporary of the Prophet) but describes a type of mentality and has, therefore, a general import.] so as to lead [those] without knowledge astray from the path of God, and to turn it to ridicule: for such there is shameful suffering in store. [Quran 31:06]

The point is where is the ban on Music in the verse or any of the above translations of the verse 31:06? especially in light of verse 54:17 above. The same verse can be used as justification to make a very serious case against those who propose such a ban.

Now look in the brackets after the translated words "idle talks" and you will understand the twisting game

Hilali/KhanAnd of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e.music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).

Edit: (Another user, I removed the name) posted this Hadith in reply to my post:

    @ life guru :

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

    My reply

It is a very well known deception to mix the good with the bad as was done in this obvious fake Hadith (Bukhari or no Bukhari) " people who permit zinaa, (Haram) silk, (Not Haram), alcohol ( Strongly advised against) and musical instruments (Not Haram)" , classic case :)

Please note the word Hadith ( ومن الناس من يشتري لهو الحديث ليضل عن سبيل الله بغير علم ويتخذها هزوا اولئك لهم عذاب مهين ) Quran 31:06 in the verse.

Another translation using the word "Hadith" will be :

"Some people uphold vain HADITH in order to divert others from the path of God without knowledge, and to create a mockery out of it." Quran (31:6)

Here are couple more with the word Hadith in the original Arabic:

"In what HADITH after this (Qur'an) will they believe?" (77:50)

"These are God's revelations that we recite for you with the truth: which HADITH, besides the revelations of God, do they believe?" (45:6)

Definitely music with profanity, sex, immoral, or unIslamic things are a sin to listen to.

Otherwise no one is for sure. If you want to be on the safe side, then don't. But Allah hu alam

Why would you want to listen to that type of Garbage?,it comes directly from Shaitan.Since you are a new revert, you do not have to give up all music right away,it comes in stages. However it is COMPLETELY forbidden for you to be listening to music with profanity or sex in it for sure. You need to get rid of it.If you are serious about Islam and following the righteous path you need to leave these old ways behind you, they will only lead to your ruin.Sorry there is just no other way to tell you, except the straight facts.

It is a very big responsibility here to say you halal or haram. This will be only my opinion that as a lady it is not haram for you.

This music issue is not that clear in Islam. All I know is woman voice as songs is haram for guys and vice versa.

Islam permits singing under the condition that it not be in any way obscene or harmful to Islamic morals.

some people say yes, others say no.

I fall under the category of no, this is because instruments are haraam.

Muscial instruments are haram in Islam except drum.

So if any musical instrument is used like gitar, piano etc except drum .So it is haram to hear.
