Recording while listen through headphones.?
So, I found this online karaoke site that allows you too sing karaoke and then share it. Since I love to sing.....why not? But here is the problem, I bought a new computer not very long ago but it has Windows XP, which my last on did. On my last one I could listen to the music through headphones while recording my singing, and then in playback, I would hear my voice nicely going along with the music....well, that's not happening.
Now when I record I have to choose either stereo mix or mic.....when I choose stereo mix I can hear the music but not my voice...so that means my mic isn't enabled. But when I choose the mic, during playback of the recording I can hear my voice but no sound which should be playing. The only way I can hear both music and my voice is too not put the headphones in....well, even the karaoke site suggested not to do that because you'll hear the music coming through the speakers and it won't be overlapping your voice to fit nicely. So obviously there is a setting that is wrong on my pc....I have all that I thought would work, but it's still not. Would anyone know how to help me? Thanks :)

In my experience, it's Mic or Stereo Mix, not both.
In order for Mic to work properly and pick up both voice and music, you might have to play the music through speakers on another device in a way such that the mic can pick both it and you up.
In order for Stereo Mix to work, the recording software *or some other setting on the computer* would have to make your computer play back microphone input as it's being recording. That IMO is a bad setup (because there's usually some latency), but I see some people suggest it online.
If you want to try this one, you'll have to investigate your specific speaker options for a setting like this. There appears to be no general setting in Windows, sorry.
I'm sure there was something unique about your setup before that let it work. Or maybe the old hardware had better capabilities and could get both? =/

Typically an instrumental version of the song. Some singers choose to have their own voices fed back through, as well, so they can monitor themselves and adjust accordingly.
