why is it that unoriginal and at best mediocre music is being accepted as ok?

it just makes me sick that there are bands coming out that are clones of other bands. whatever happened to developing a unique sound to set yourself apart? is it laziness or are people just afraid to be different from the other sheeple and don't want to be ostracized for doing what is right?

once something original and fresh comes out it is given a label...once it has the label it can be marketed to the masses with the intention of removing as much money as possible from those masses.....the result is watered down crap music made by copy cat "bands" with no talent. it's been that way for decades, and will continue as long as there is money to be made.

most people will accept anything as ok when bombarded by it 24 hours a day through mass marketing. led zeppelin lends a song for a cadillac commercial and suddenly it's cool to buy a $70,000 cadillac, or a moody blues song in a visa commercial makes it cool to go into debt, or a beatles song makes you want to wear nikes.....

it's hard to be free and original when you are bought and sold in the marketplace.

There are alot of sound-a-like bands out there. I do think it's laziness but also the music industry is so into making money. If your band sounds exactly like "Daughtry" that's a good thing! You will get at least a hit song out of that, LOL, and that's more cash in pocket for the bigwigs. I get really annoyed when these sound-a-likes put out "singles," or one decent song that gets played on the radio ad nauseum, then POOF! they are never heard from again. A lof of these bands I see people getting so crazy over have that one good song and nothing else. They are running around saying "Blank" is my favorite band but "Blank" has only had 1 or 2 songs that have been on the radio this summer so far, LOL. there is no staying power anymore in the industry, it is all about selling records right now, who cares if that band will be here in 10, 12 years?

Mediocre = Average = Okay. Seems like a obvious transitive property to me. And god forbid people actually like the sounds on the radio. Music goes in cycles. Sit back and wait for something more your style to come through, or build a time machine.

The unknown is scary. A lot of people hate what they don't understand.

And of course, money. Why promote a unique different band when you can promote a band you know will make you money?

Maybe that's why Indie is a lot better. Those band know they won't get a record deal because they're not generic, so they don't try.

Some people are stupid and they always go for the same things, they don't venture beyond that because they don't realize it. Anything original is going to get ripped off eventually so it becomes popular with the "masses."

    I blame the parents.

not spending the time away from tv and shopping malls and instead listening to music of quality while playing in the yard, going for a drive or taking them to concerts because they want "time away from the kids". If i cant take my kid to a concert with me then i dont go. she's only 8 and knows by sight or ear, bob dylan, jerry garcia, phil lesh, bob weir, billy corgan, tom waits, mark everett, jeff tweedy, ozzy, liz phair, gene and dean ween, joseph arthur, rocky votolato, jackie green and neil young.

now, she may still fall into one of those phases of crap music that young teens often do, but she has a fundamental knowledge of quality music and i know her issues with audio sensory wont allow her to listen to crap music for long.

or maybe the parents arent really into music, in that case i still blame the parents.

Record companies know brainwashed idiots bay records of these bandsso they pick them up and make a lot of money. Other compnaies make memorabilia of these bands because they know idiot fans would buy that junk

Because people who buy that crap can't take the new or different things that should be popular, but aren't.

Because of brainwashed teenagers who eat what the mainstream vomits up.
