They should pay for it themselves, too many old folk spent their youth drinking, gambling and wasting their money, instead of saving for their old age.

Who do they think should pay for their old age care the Government?

Bring back the work houses to teach them a lesson, and let them

think twice before they start wasting their money.

What a cheek they have, expecting others to foot the bill for their care.

First the individual if they can afford it, then the family if they have the resources and are willing and last resort the government when there is no other financial means. As adults we are responsible to pay for our living expenses and health care etc. For those who really cant afford it, then the government must step in to make sure that they have the basics.

When I was young, families took care of it. Then, if the elderly had their own money, they took care of it themselves. Then some people started buying insurance to take care of it. Then, folks started expecting the Government to take care of it.

Now, when something is "free" and you don't have to do anything but apply, I guess we all know who is going to be getting the bill( we will. not Govt.). Soon, no one will ever be responsible for anything anymore. Not even having security since that goes away when we give up all our liberty.

Those whose households include a willing adult with enough floorspace are already caring for their elderly in their own homes. Those without, I imagine, can afford the private care senior facilities that are $1200/mo and up. Those elders who need in-home care, and are still somewhat self-sufficient, and those without floorspace and that kind of money must indeed depend on what government programs help provide.

If the government pays that is the public tax dollar. This kind of plays into the current subject of the death panel rumors. If the government is footing the bill do they have the right to pull the plug on you or does the family assume the cost to the point of possible bankruptcy? I don't know the answer but with the boomer population aging it is going to be costly for someone.

abuse should stop. An elder person hooked up to oxygen and still smoking makes no sense. To get a stomach staple only to go back to eating like a glutton is also a waste.to give a new heart to an opbese smoker is a waste of another life. The abuse is what has brought about the medical cost problems we have today. If some refuses to follow doctors direction they should have to do without.

Depends who you ask. We pay the federal government to do it, but I think the states could handle it better. They can react better to the individual needs of the populous.

The elderly's private insurance should pay for it, that's what it is for. Then medicare pays the rest. If the elderly planned their life right they should have saved up money for when they get old. The family should not have to because people have enough trouble paying their own bills.

Certainly not the government..I worked and saved for my retirement..I am my own responsibility..I do not expect my kids or the government to pay for my care..

Any one but the Government. If we regulated our government to operate within the restraints of our constitution and adjust taxation to allow this we would see this country return to it's position of leadership in the world.
