Flying from LAX to MCO?

My dad wants me to do some stupid things to keep me busy. He asks a bunch of question and there's one I don't know how to answer. Here it goes. Do we fly across the many states in between from LA to Orlando or do we fly around above the ocean from LA or Orlando? Please! Need help here!

You will fly only over the states to get from LAX to MCO.

Here is a route that American Airlines flew yesterday. United and Delta flew the same route, none crossed the Gulf Of Mexico.

Ok I'm not sure if I understood this right but I'll give it a go anyways...you go across the states from LA to Orlando, you could go around the other way (flying west around the globe, over China, Europe, and the Atlantic) but it would probably take 10 times as long so I think all flights just cross the country. Hope this helped!
