What is the real first name of Sleeping Beauty?
In the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, does the Princess have a name?
In the original Perrault tale she is anonymous. The Brothers Grimm included the story because they thought that it was based on the German myth Brynhild and called her Briar Rose.
Disney and Tchaikovsky call her Aurore, which is wrong, as in the Perrault tale Aurore is the name of Sleeping Beauty's daughter.
Any more insights?
PS I did read the Wikipedia article already.

Hi Sue :)
Actually, the first version of the story was published by Giambattista Basile in 1636, and he calls her Talia. That was way before Perrault, who published his version in 1698 (I think).
So her real name is Talia.

in disney, it's princess aurora. in earliest works, it's Talia.
'Sun, Moon, and Talia' was the tale written by Giambattista Basile in his work "The Pentamerone" in 1634. Talia was the Princess, and her twins were named Sun and Moon. Charles Perrault retold it as Sleeping Beauty in 1697. L'Aurore was the name Perrault called sleeping beauty's daughter. He never gave Sleeping Beauty a name. some translations of the Grimm tale give the princess the name Rosamond, and others Briar Rose, influenced from Charles Perrault. L'Tchaikovsky shifted the name of the daughter to the mother instead, with Aurora. and that's how disney came to calling sleeping beauty Princess Aurora
