why would my camera memory card not work anymore?

i've had my memory card for my camera for almost a year. it's always worked before but now when i go to review my picture on the memory card in the camera it says card error. so do i need a new memory card? why would this happen. ive even reformatted the card it was fine for awhile but then it started doing the card error again.

Update:

and if it's corrupted like somebody said how exactly did that happen? and how can i prevent that from happening again?

    Download a free utility like CardWiper - it will inspect and repair the card to factory condition as long as there is nothing physically wrong with it.

    Formatting is something you should do often, but only in your camera. Corruption commonly occurs from deleting images over time without formatting often enough. The addresses get screwed up and eventually the memory can no longer access the key areas to function correctly.

    Could be it's corrupted. These things, like other electronic devices, don't last for ever. A replacement should solve your problem.
