RAM upgrades for my desktop?
I have recently used the Crucial System Scanner, and it has found that I am currently running 512 mb of RAM in one holder.
The compatibility box said that I could run up to 2 GB of RAM.
In order to get to the 2 GB of ram, I'd need to replace the 512 mb stick with two 1 GB sticks.
Should I do this? Or would it be better for me to keep the original 512 mb stick in and be able to get a maximum of 1.5 GB?
Is it safe for my computer to use two 1 GB sticks?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
If I were to use the two 1 GB sticks, and my computer ended up crashing, could I take the two sticks out and put the 512 mb one back in?
Would that cause my computer to reboot normally?

The more cost effective option is to just add RAM to get it to 1.5gb, but for performance you should replace it and put in two 1Gb sticks. Personally i would put in two 1Gb sticks. two sticks of RAM will work fine. just make sure its compatible with your motherboard.

Yes it is safe to put two 1GB sticks in. You can also put one 1GB stick in to total 1.5GB if you are trying to save $$. 2GB of ram is better. I am running a new Quad core and Vista Home Premium with 6GB of ram and Aero enabled and it takes 2GB of ram at idle! so I would advise you to put as much as your unit will take. You won't be sorry you did.

I've gone both ways in your situation. I suggest going with a 2 new 1Gb DIMM. That way you don't risk compatibility issues from having two different brands of memory.

i would go with 2 new 1gig sticks....the 512mb chip is probably not that great....go to newegg.com and buy some good ram....corsair,g skill, ocz, just to mention a few...you will getter better performance and it is not gonna cost a lot to do it.....30-50.00 bux most likely....as long as you get the same spec ram, could be from a different manufacture you will be fine...it should boot right up...

yes it works,
ur computer would run faster if it has 2 rather than 1.5 or 512, i did it and its awsome

Hmmm, My computer is slightly older and it could only handle 512MB per slot. Be sure to check with your EXACT system model.
