Can anyone tell me what kind of spider this is, and if it's poisonous?

It's brown with white lines on its body and legs; it's about the size of a quarter.

The photo isn't very helpful, as it is blurry and faded, but to offer a guess based on the shape of the spider, a male orbweaver (family Araneidae, genus Neoscona or Araneus).

    Compare to this photo:

A horrible picture makes it difficult to discern. Looks like the harmless garden variety to me. If you found it in a web then I'd go with the first answer but if it was running amok along the ground then it could be a wolf spider which has a pretty nasty but not deadly bite. Neither one should give you any cause for concern.

I believe that's what they call a garden spider. Harmless, but has a distinct web. Large circular web with white zig zag pattern.
