It is not only appropriate, it should be a pre-requisite at any place of employment that pays under one million per annum.

Only if you either don't like your job, or all of the people you work with have no sense of smell. Perhaps if you were to pick a slightly less pungent beverage, your idea might fly.
Or how about actually having coffee in your spill proof mug, but add a "kick". That's how I roll!

I think someone might notice the smell, especially because Guinness Stout is so strong (and delicious). But depending where you are, it could be appropriate. I wouldn't do it at work
