Unique cake flavors...?
I'm making a special cake and I want ideas for a unique, unusual flavor. I *dont* want the color of the cake to be weird though..
thanks.

Hi...Here's a good one...
Paula Deen's Root Beer Float Cake
1 (18.25-ounce) yellow cake mix with pudding in the mix
1 (5.1 ounce) box vanilla instant pudding mix
1 1/4 cup root beer
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 10-inch fluted cake pan.
2. In a large bowl combine cake mix, pudding mix, root beer, vegetable oil and eggs. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Spoon batter into prepared pan, and bake for 45 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool completely on a wire rack. Spoon glaze over cooled cake.
Root Beer Glaze
2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons root beer
In a small bowl, combine sugar and root beer, whisking until smooth.

How about French Toast and Bacon?
I've usually made cupcakes with maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and little pieces of bacon in the batter. Sounds weird, but everyone who tastes them says they love the taste!
See pictures and recipe at link below. (The recipe is for cupcakes, but can probably be easily poured into a cake pan to make a cake.)

I love lemon flavored cake. My grandma makes lemon cup cakes and the color looks like yellow cake mix but it is SO good.

Try a devil's food cake but add a little spicy flavor like a little diced jalapenos or ancho chili powder. Or a vanilla cake with green tea flavor. Replace some of the water in the recipe with brewed green tea (I can't promise this won't change the color but it won't be a drastic change).

When you are at the store, look at the different flavored extracts. You can add almond, orange, vanilla, mint flavors, just to name a few. I add some almond extract to a lot of my cake mixes for the added flavor. We love it! Also, almond is clear so it won't change the color.
For something different you can add almond extract to chocolate fudge cake mix, almost tastes like chocolate covered cherries! Adding orange extract to chocolate fudge mix is yummy too.

Pistachio cake is excellent and it's a pretty seafoam green color. There are many recipes online for it.
