Actually programming languages has very little to do with computer science, the main point of computer science is theory and algorithms. Programming languages are just the method in which these are taught, because you can't give directions to a computer in any other way. There is software engineering which is basically what you think computer science to be.

The languages really depend, python is very good for beginners, java seems to be the defacto languages used in institutions. C can be learned if you really want to get some experience doing lower level stuff. Algorithms are usually described using functional languages such as lisp, or scheme (same thing really).

computers have massive amount of fields.

Software programming (web / desktop based)

[each has its own language basicly]

Web design is for web, and programs, applications, and video games for desktop based to say the least)

Hardware engineering (development and repair of computer hardware)

and it expands alot, from basic computers to satellite programming and repair, to robotic engineering. Computers are tied to most things now and learning the basics can lead you to many different fields. Just go to college sites and even request brochures from places like ITT to get an idea of basic courses. That can be elevated later if you so wished to go for that. Enjoy your work in computers, good luck!

It varies by utilising direction and professor. So in a number of your classes, you would be evaluated based purely on assignments. In others, it's going to be a mixture of assignments and tests. In nonetheless others, it's going to easily be tests. however the professor generally tells you what to assume on the 1st day of sophistication, and you will additionally ask fellow pupils who've taken the class with that professor earlier.
