MMA Glove Question for MMA experts!?

I know everlast says its for added protection but there isnt any padding on the closed thumb!!?!!?!!?!!

Update:

What are the closed thumbs for on this glove? Why are the thumbs closed? Are they for support? what are they for? http://www.mmawarehouse.com/Everlast-Closed-Thumb-...

its because they are grappling gloves and are not padded so you have more control over your thumbs to put people in submissions easier

p.s. those are not official mma gloves either they are just grappling training gloves

The material it self offers a certain amount of protection. Closed thumb, open thumb it's really a matter of personal choice

Source(s): I own both styles. I like them both. I have the official UFC leather gloves and a Hybrid closed thumb gloves from title mma.

You only need a certain amount of padding for your knuckles, and then the extra padding is all for whoever you're hitting, so that the punches aren't as bad.
