Would it bother you if the local celebrity was a member of an "unacceptable" religion?

I think I may have "outed" our local celebrity, unwittingly. It never occured to me that my boss would make as big of a deal about it as she has - NOT that she has made a big issue of it, but I can tell it's weighed HEAVILY on her mind. She's said that if some of her Baptist friends knew, it might effect their support of the local celebrity. (not a movie star, or anything, just your run of the mill, local who is well known).

Update:

Very good question Leo. Society does. And in my local society they say that if you are Protestant or Catholic, then it's "acceptable" if you aren't then it's at best, questionable. This person is not Protestant or Catholic, so I feel like I may have "outed" him.

To the first answerer: I'm not talking about sexual orientation, I'm talking about religion. See my coment to Leo.

    no i dont think so.

i might think less of a certain star who is involved in scientology but i still like the movies and roles he plays.

i think very highly of a certain celibrity historian, Glenn kimbal because of his eye opening jaw dropping statement that rocked my theological perspective, but i still might disagree with a few of his beliefs.

The only celebrity 'round these parts is beer. Yuengling, to be specific. Many of the local folks adhere to the religion of Yuengling, so I think it's well accepted.

    >> I assure you that I speak the truth. Look up Yuengling. Just about everyone I know here drinks it. Maybe that doesn't qualify as something religious to you, but maybe you don't know the people where I live.

In the case of big-name movie stars, I do think less of those who choose wacko/nut-jobby religions (Scientology is the one that hits the biggest nerve with me). Do I still watch their movies? If I think it'll be a good movie, sure- I'll try it. (Yes, I saw Valkery- enjoyed it.)

But then, I also tend to think less of celebrities whose walk and talk don't match (Garth Brooks.. yeah, I'm pretty sure his ex is with me on this one.). Do I still listen to Brooks' music? Yeah, but I don't take it as a commentary on his life, like I used to.. I wonder how many of those songs he sang were about Trisha instead of his wife...

In the case of a local celebrity.. that's a good question. The local celebrity in my area (If I told you his name, even you'd know him!)-- he's actually a member of the dominant religion in the area.. does that help his local popularity? Bet your buttons it does! His name is practically a buzz-word around here! He's involved in a number of local projects and programs, and I wonder sometimes if people who "love" him only do so b/c of that (ok, and his amazing talent). I personally have talked with him and find him knowledgeable, but rather self-absorbed... not unexpected in someone of his talent and notoriety, but it reminded me that he's just like the rest of us- a full-fledged flawed human being.

Source(s): http://www.ufoc.org/ (Utah Festival Opera Company) He's starring as KoKo in The Mikado.. oh, yeah- and he's the general direcor of the organization.

Personally, I uncover it a little bit nauseating that a bunch of hippies from a made a made-up faith desire to intervene with a historical past they do not honestly recognize something approximately. Me too! But, apart from the "hippie" bit that is how I view christians!

There are some shallow religions that would "out" a person of what they considered to be an unacceptable religion. Perhaps one that even though they have "Jesus Christ" as part of their name, are not considered to be Christians. Christ himself was "outed" by the Jews. He was then founder of and unacceptable religion. I belong to one of the Most Christian "unacceptable religions, so I know exactly what you mean. Outing anyone is not Christ like, and so that religion who thinks they are Christian, surely do not act like it. And, really are not following the teachings of Christ.
