who makes more money, paralegals or law clerks in Toronto/GTA?

I am researching careers for second career training. I like entrepreneurial stuff so Paralegal is my thinking, but perhaps Law Clerk is easier for steady income. If I am trained as a paralegal, would that make me fully qualified to work as Law Clerk? Would law firms be less inclined to take on a person trained as Paralegal to do Law Clerk work? Is there a difference in knowledge??? (besides from Paralegal knowing additionally how to run their own business?)

Update:

clarification: I live in Toronto, Canada and the titles are Law Clerk vs. Paralegal - both require Diploma education. Legal Assistant/Secretary is the clerical support person on the team, whereas Law Clerk is an assistant to case work - they interview clients and do other substantive case work under direction. In 2007, Paralegals in Ontario as independent practitioners must be licenced, whereas Law Clerks who work under the direction of a Lawyer don't need to be.

There's a lot of overlap, but I'd say a paralegal is better for pay. Every big Bay Street firm, every major government ministry or department hires their own paralegals. Law clerks tend to learn less about admin procedures, so I'd say their skills aren't as useful. But yeah, they're pretty similar.

I don't think there is much difference between either program, no matter what colleges might tell you. It's more important to choose a reputable college than to worry about law clerk/paralegal divide.

Currently a paralegal who works under the direct supervision of a lawyer does not have to be licensed either.

Licensed paralegals can appear in court and tribunal, and are allowed to work independent of lawyers, preparing documents etc.

Law clerks from what I understand are trained to prepare documents that lawyers' rely on. They include the many areas of practise that paralegals are not allowed to perform in. (family law, superior court, estates, real estate etc.)

A Paralegal is someone with a college degree and can later get certified.

A Law Clerk is someone that pretty much "just so happens" to obtain a job at a law office..

Paralegal is going to pay more because college is involved and you could do freelance paralegal work (created legal documents and stuff) for a lesser price than a lawyer and make tons of money..
