You COULD get an infection, but usually nothing happens. it will drop dry up and drop off by itself in 5-7 days. you'll never notice.
The stinger stay In your skin, and the poison sack is attached, it keeps "pumping" for several seconds after the bee has flown away (and, having its insides ripped out, the bee IS going to die). This is important to someone who has a reaction to bee stings, because they don't want that stinger pumping MORE poison into the skin, So THEY NEED to get the stinger out as fast as possible.
For a normal person, who does NOT have reactions to bee stings, it is not really important if you get it our or leave it in.

Best to get the stinger out or risk an infection. If it's just super hard to get out then just keep an eye on it and watch for any new swelling. If you keep the area clean your body will most likely take care of it.

This happened to me years ago. I had a stinger that I didn't remove. The area swelled up, and I had to go to the doctor in order to get it removed.

It can continue to release venom. It will probably come out eventually, like how a splinter works its way out after a while.
Try tweezers or a needle if you must.
