Might sound a bit silly, but can squirrels swim?

A lady friend has found two dead grey squirrels floating in her garden pond.

Yes...Anglesey Island off the coast of Wales has red squirrels, and researchers trying to protect them have sighted greys swimming across the channel.

Bit of a mystery why those 2 turned up...did the pond have steep sides? Could they have been attacked by a predator?

Please let us know if you find out.

    Beechnut.

Sounds like a malicious neighbour, or a piece of vandalism.

Squirrels can swim, but would avoid going into a garden pond. There is no reason for them to do so.

Squirrels swim using a "dog paddle" motion, and their tail as a rudder. Swimming is very strenuous for a squirrel, and it's not done unless absolutely necessary.

all mammals can swim but these squirrels probably couldn't get out of the pond because of the slippery sides and died from drowning after getting exhausted ='( poor squirrels! rip
