Cant access files on old laptop HD, using usb adapter?

My old laptops Mboard bit it. Got a new Laptop, and an adapter to hook old HD up via USB to new one. But I cannot access files due to permissions, I have the old HD password, how do I get to use it (Both windows vista)

    Hi Scott,

    What you need to do here is to take ownership of the files & Folders on the older drive.

    Refer the link below and follow the steps under " How to take ownership of the Folder".

    Do ensure you need to be logged in as an Administrator on the new Laptop to do the same.

    sometimes the command console is more lenient when it comes to permissions. booting up in DOS/recovery console may do better if cmd fails. Sometimes a linux OS can access drives easier

    get a program that will do it for you or get permissions.try microsoft- technet.com or - MSDN
